History

The island is not as rich in history as it’s southern neighbors, but the neighborhood association has worked hard to make it one of the most beautiful places to live in St. Petersburg. Shore Acres was mainly marsh and before the early 1920’s. During the 1950’s land was sold and houses were built. Surrounding areas like Venetian Isles and Snell Isle were also built up around this time.

Shore Acres Civic Association (SACA) is active in crime control and code violations, beautification of the island, and improving the overall quality of life of its beloved residents. Most recently, they have upgraded sidewalks and lowered the rates for the pool at Shore Acres Park. The association also promotes events like “Flick and Float” where residents can watch a movie while floating alongside friend in the park’s swimming pool. Membership is just $20 annually.
